Through the joint prisms of art and conversation, equals will provide a variety of platforms for all people of all genders to participate in the discussions and debates surrounding feminism and gender equality.
equals hopes to challenge preconceptions, reinvigorate the word feminism and take a step closer to achieving a better model of gender equality today.
On Saturday 13th July 2013, Blank Media Collective will be hosting an equals ‘speed debate’ where participants can engage in conversation and debate directly with high profile voices in UK feminism.
The speed debate is an opportunity for people to sit and talk about feminism. With an activist, a journalist, a comedian and an academic, participants and invited to explore as much as they can, before moving onto the next table and the next topic. Say as little or as much as you want and feel free to challenge preconceptions.
Speakers: Ally Fogg (Guardian), Lucy-Anne Holmes (No More Page 3), Vicky Horne (Feminist Art Historian), Kate Smurthwaite (Comedian/Political Activist), Caroline Craido-Perez (Writer for New Statesmen and ‘Keep a woman on English banknotes’ campaign).
After lunch the speakers will be in discussion with the artists from the equals exhibition at BLANKSPACE about the themes of their work and the links to contemporary feminism. This will be followed by an artist Q&A where attendees will have the opportunity to ask further question of the artists.
Artists will include: Sarah Maple, Former James Bond star Margaret Nolen, Rosanne Robertson and more.
The event is being held at 2022NQ, 20 Dale Street, Manchester, M1 1EZ. Please arrive at 11am as the speed debate will begin at 11.30am.
